Residential mortgage loan servicers are regulated by the Oregon Division of Financial Regulation. To file a complaint, call 866-814-9710 or visit http://dfr.oregon.gov.
- At the conclusion of the term of the reverse mortgage loan contract, some or all of the equity in the property will no longer belong to the borrower.
- The lender charges an origination fee, a mortgage insurance premium, closing costs, or servicing fees for the reverse mortgage.
- The balance of the reverse mortgage loan grows over time, and the lender charges interest on the outstanding loan balance.
- The borrower retains title to the property and is responsible for paying property taxes, insurance, and maintenance.
- Interest on a reverse mortgage isn’t deductible from the borrower’s income tax return until all or part of the reverse mortgage is repaid.
